SSSssst, did you know it's just 3 simple steps and your Joomla site is collecting valuable statistics? Assuming you already have installed & configured the Joomla CMS.

Brief instruction

  1. Download the latest version of JoomlaStats component (eg. com_joomlastats_v2.2.3.zip).
  2. If You already have installed older version of JoomlaStats then uninstall it first - Your statistics retain if you use standard 'Joomla CMS' uninstallation procedure.
Install new version of component by using default 'Joomla CMS' installation procedure.
  3. Activate JoomlaStats

Detailed instruction

  1. Download the JoomlaStats component, for example com_joomlastats_v2.2.3.zip. This is a zip file, you don't need to unzip it.
  2. If you are upgrading (you have installed an older version of JoomlaStats), then uninstall the previous JoomlaStats component by using default Joomla uninstall procedure. You're data is unharmed.
  3. Install the component by using default Joomla installation procedure:

between major version releases there's only upwards compatibility, your data is save for the new version, but if you want to reinstall the old version, you might not be able to see the data)

    • Log in to the backend (Administration) part of your Joomla site
    • [If you are upgrading from a beta version previous to 2.1.4 that used the mambot, first uninstall it]
    • Choose menu item "Installers", then "Components"
    • Upload the just downloaded zip file
    • follow instructions.
If you get a error that looks like:
        Upload module - Upload Failed
ERROR: Could not find an XML setup file in the package.
Then you probably should (locally) unzip the downloaded zip file. If you get a new zip file, repeat this step with this extracted zip file. More info in this forum post.
    • If you get the error "Installation file not found" while uploading the package file, try turning off safe mode. Please let us know if you have this error or not and if disabling safe mode is helping you at the forum
  4. To be able to collect the statistics, you need to activate JoomlaStats. There are several ways to do this, they are explained in the activation FAQ.

Final Words

There you go, that's it!
Now you want to test if it works, so go ahead click through your site. Then go to the back end and select menu item "Components", "JoomlaStats" and your data should be collected.

Maybe you want to download and install some modules. This way you directly present some stats to your visitors (or only to the admins) on the frontpage!
